My Favorite Cookie in Seattle: The Chubby from Monorail Espresso
Say hello to my favorite cookie in Seattle.
Its name is Chubby, and it lives not at a bakery but at Monorail Espresso downtown (one of the oldest espresso stands in the city). They're made in small batches by hand by Mr. Espresso himself, Chuck Beek.
They're slightly bigger than a golf ball, and taste-wise they fall somewhere, delectably, between a chocolate chip cookie and a shortbread cookie: slightly crunchy/sandy on the outside, and dense and chewy on the inside. "Perfect" may not be the best word to describe them, but it's the first one that comes to mind.
If you are what you eat, this is the kind of chubby to which I aspire.
Chubby Cookies (with or without pecans) are available at Monorail Espresso, 520 Pike Street; for more information, click here.

Kristen Rask is the owner of Schmancy, a small shop in downtown Seattle a hop and skip away from Pike's Place Market. Schmancy specializes in vinyl and plush toys as well as art. Located right next door to The Moore Theater box office, Schmancy is just as colorful as the street it inhabits.
Jessie Oleson is the creator of CakeSpy.com, a dessert detective agency dedicated to seeking sweetness in everyday life. What does this mean, exactly? Basically that she writes about, thinks about, and draws illustrations of desserts all day--and gets paid for it. Booyea! She lives in the Central District with her husband Danny, their pug Porkchop, and two guinea pigs, Falafel and Hot Pocket.
Sally Brock is the Boss and TV star of Fancy. Fancy features over 30 local artists and designers, and specializes in custom wedding rings, handmade with recycled precious metals and repurposed or fair trade gemstones. Located just south of Schmancy & Nancy downtown.
